Finding Humor, Faith, and Balance in Life’s Curveballs: The Secret Life of a Doctor’s Wife Featured on “The Wigwam”
One of the greatest joys of writing The Secret Life of a Doctor’s Wife has been connecting with women who see themselves in my story; women who have faced unexpected challenges, whether in motherhood, marriage, or faith, and found that sometimes laughter really is the best medicine.
Recently, I had the absolute privilege of seeing my book featured on The Wigwam, a creative and joy-filled book review series by Aimee Ashcraft. Aimee reads and reviews books in her stunning home library, but with a twist: each episode she dons a different wig. What started as a way to bring humor and personality into her content also represents something deeply powerful: Aimee lost her biological hair, and instead of letting that become a source of shame or loss, she transformed it into a beautiful celebration of individuality, creativity, and joy.
Her courage to share her story so openly inspires me. Through her wigs, Aimee reminds us that struggles can be reframed into something lighthearted and even fun, much like what I hoped to capture in The Secret Life of a Doctor’s Wife.
Why The Secret Life of a Doctor’s Wife Resonates with Women Everywhere
When I experienced an unplanned pregnancy more than ten years after having my third child, I found myself right back at the starting line of motherhood, a place I thought I had left far behind. The reality of caring for a baby while balancing marriage, family, and faith collided head-on with my expectations, leaving me laughing one moment and crying the next.
In The Secret Life of a Doctor’s Wife, I share a collection of essays that chronicle this season of my life. With honesty, humor, and a dash of faith, I talk about the universal human struggle to find equilibrium (or at least a shred of peace!) when life throws you a giant curveball.
And that’s why seeing Aimee bring her own humor, perspective, and bravery into her reviews felt like such a beautiful parallel. We may face very different struggles, but women everywhere can connect with that feeling of having life turn upside down and needing both laughter and faith to find our way forward.
